Food Carbon Footprint

Current climate change is caused by human activities and is recognized as a threat to public health. it has been observed that food production generates gases that contribute to climate change, such as nitrous oxide and methane.

The human activities have an impact on environment, and those activities are measures with the carbon footprint. The food has a carbon footprint, and different foods have a carbon footprint, and this varies from low to high carbon footprint and it is expressed on kilogram (kg) of carbon dioxide equivalent (kg CO2eq). Example 1 kg of beef cattle meat generates almost 27 kg CO2eq, meanwhile 1 kg of vegetables generates a 1 kg equivalent of carbon dioxide.
